The prevalence of lower eyelid epiblepharon and its association with refractive errors in Chinese preschool children: a cross-sectional study

Abstract Background To assess the prevalence and demographics of lower eyelid epiblepharon in Chinese preschool children to evaluate its association with refractive errors. Methods In this population-based, cross-sectional study, a total 3170 aged 3 6 years from Beijing, China underwent examinations including weight, height, cycloplegic autorefraction slit-lamp examination external eyes. The was evaluated age, sex, body mass index (BMI), errors analyzed using logistic regression analysis. Results 26.2%, which decreased 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-year-olds 30.6, 28.0, 15.0, 14.3%, respectively. Boys had higher risk having than girls (OR = 1.41; 95%CI, (1.20–1.66)) no significant correlation detected between BMI after adjusting for age sex ( p 0.062). Epiblepharon significantly associated errors, astigmatism 3.41; 95% CI, (2.68–4.33)), myopia 3.55; (1.86–6.76)), hyperopia 1.53; (1.18–1.99)). Conclusions There is high children, particularly among boys younger children. Preschoolers are subject developing astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, those without. Increased attention should be paid abnormality population.
